This is the first food review by CUE and it is but fitting to start with an irresistible creation by Chef Karen Dorotheo of TaGû Pagari Food Inc - the Naked Carrot Pumpkin Cake.
The CUE team was just browsing on FB until we came across TaGû Pagari Food Inc. They had some interesting stuffs like the Boodle Fight and Wow Pao, but what caught our attention the most was the Naked Carrot Pumpkin Cake. We immediately thought of the upcoming birthday of our teammate who loves Vegan, well at least that's what we assumed it was. But it was not Vegan, because it uses egg and animal fat like butter, but Chef Karen can actually customize it and make it Vegan. Nevertheless we had the non-Vegan cake because we ordered it late, a day before the birthday. It was actually very easy to order, we send a private message on their FB and paid through GCash. The cake can either be picked up at their resto at 1312 Horseshoe Drive, Banawa, Cebu City or have it delivered for an additional fee. We chose to have it delivered. Then lo and behold, it arrived as promised before 5 in the afternoon.

We were kinda shocked because the Naked Carrot Pumpkin Cake was very heavy and huge and it was neatly placed in a colorful box. The chef says the cake is good for about ten (10) persons. Well the weight of the package could attest to that. We were all excited to open the box that we forgot it was supposed to be a birthday present.
As we opened the box, it didn't look like a carrot cake nor a pumpkin cake. It looked like a Vanilla-Chocolate Cake. But we knew it wasn't a mistake because this was how it was supposed to look like as posted on the Tagû page.
Here it is, in its full naked glory. Ever wonder why it is called a naked cake? It is called as such because it has minimal outer layer of frosting which show off the cake's texture and filling.
The weaved chocolate pattern on top and the white frosting provides a delicate canopy of contrast over the yellow and orange hues beneath it.
Just look at those rich and vibrant colors. The cake is so dense. The upper layer, by the looks of it, which has rich orange hues should be the carrot cake. The lower layer which is yellow in color is the pumpkin cake. The pumpkin portion smells so earthy and sweet. You can actually see some of the pumpkin fibers, which is a good thing because it means, natural ingredients are used.
Just look at that thing of beauty! Isn't that inviting?! But it tastes even much better than it actually looked. The carrot portion is so moist and it glides in your tongue. The pumpkin provides a little texture and edge and the two just deliciously mesh into an explosive taste and aroma in the palate.
A slice of the Carrot-Pumpkin Cake can satiate a hungry stomach, as it seemed to be a complete and full meal in itself. This Naked Carrot-Pumpkin Cake is the most decadent dessert, snack, appetizer and main course that could fill your table without leaving you guilty of indulgence. If there is one thing that we would take away, that would be the frosting. We are really not into sweets, which is just a personal preference among us, But for those with sweet tooth, the frosting is an added treat. But the carrot cake and the pumpkin cake could stand on their own. That is how luscious and rich they are as separate cakes but when taken together, they are just as mouthwatering and appetizing.
One tip though, leave the cake in the fridge for a day or two, that is when the magic happens, as the real flavors of the carrot and the pumpkin comes out and it becomes more distinguishable in your palate and the cake becomes more flavorful.
By the way, if you're worried that it might taste too "vegetable" for your kids or those who are not really into vegetables, No it does not scream vegetable at all! You've got to taste it to believe it!
The Naked Carrot-Pumpkin Cake costs P1,500 and every inch is so worth it. We couldn't wait to try it again, and the Vegan version of this cake too.
Truly an irresistible treat!
