An exploratory meeting was held between the Cebu Provincial Government and representatives of Naga College Foundation – Extension School on Monday, March 2, 2026, to discuss the possibility of bringing their Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Training Program to Cebu.

The Certified Nursing Attendant program is patterned after a U.S.-based framework. It is designed as a fast-track training course with strong clinical immersion to prepare graduates for specialized roles in various healthcare settings.
The model has already proven successful in Naga, Camarines Sur.
Key points highlighted during the discussion include: • Majority of enrollees are single parents and housewives • Designed for upskilling and workforce re-entry • Heavy clinical exposure to ensure job-readiness • Effective implementation in Naga
Capitol Piso Public Health Consultant Dr. Elisse Nicole Catalan expressed support for the initiative, recognizing it as an opportunity to empower women and single parents who possess the skills and compassion to care for patients in hospital settings.
According to Dr. Catalan, the initiative could open more opportunities not only for local employment but also for ethical global mobility aligned with international standards.

The meeting forms part of the continuing efforts of People’s Governor Pam Baricuatro and Dr. Catalan to strengthen Cebu’s healthcare workforce pipeline. Dr. Catalan emphasized the growing demand for trained allied health professionals who can support safe and efficient patient care across healthcare facilities in the province.
