The Embassy of France to the Philippines, in cooperation with the Institut Franรงais, SM Supermalls, the Alliance franรงaise de Cebu, and QCinema International Film Festival, brings the 28th edition of the French Film Festival, an annual rendez-vous of cinephiles in the country, to Cebu.
From May 29 to 31, just after the closing of the Cannes
Film Festival 2026,
the French Film Festival goes to SM City Cebu to
present a selection of contemporary French titles for the enjoyment of the
movie-going public in the city.
For almost three decades, the French Film Festival has
been a gateway for Filipino audiences to experience French culture through a
diverse slate of films: bold, intimate, and thought-provoking. By offering a
selection of new French releases and heritage films, the festival offers a
venue to promote French culture, as well as defend cultural diversity.
For the first time in 2024, in line with the feminist diplomacy of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and under the lead of
French Ambassador to the Philippines Marie Fontanel, the
festival donned the colors of a feminist cinema seen through France’s and the Philippines’ new generation of female
directors, showcasing powerful stories and insightful portraits of women and
girls in the modern society. In 2025, the 28th edition of the French Film Festival in Manila continued this
initiative, with the presence of actress Garance Marillier, and also put a spotlight on animated storytelling.
This edition also highlighted the landmark Co-Production Agreement between the
two countries signed at the Cannes Film Festival last year.
For this year’s edition in Cebu, the French Film Festival will offer a selection of contemporary French titles: La Petite Derniรจre (The Little Sister) by Hafsia Herzi, Sur les chemins noirs (On
the wandering path) by Denis Imbert, Chronique d’Une
liaison passagรจre (Diary of a Fleeting
Af air) by Emmanuel Mouret, Les Promesses (Promises) by
Thomas Kruithof, La Fracture
(The Divide) by Catherine Corsini, and Maya Donne moi un
titre (Maya, Give Me A Title) by
