By 8 o’clock on a Saturday morning, Cebu is usually still stretching awake. The traffic is lighter, the air softer, and somewhere between the scent of brewed coffee and garlic fried rice, the city begins to move at a gentler pace.
Starting June 6, Cebu in a Bite and Vibo Place wants to turn those quiet mornings into something more communal — and unmistakably Filipino.
Dubbed the “Sabado Brunch Club,” the new weekly gathering transforms the open space between Brick Lane and Jaffars into a lively brunch destination where food, music, culture, and nostalgia converge. Officially launched during a press conference hosted by the Vibo Group on June 2, at the Cebu Grand Hotel, the concept offers a fresh take on Filipino breakfast culture, reimagined for a younger, social-media-savvy generation without losing the warmth and familiarity of traditional community gatherings.
“We wanted to create something that feels both new and
deeply familiar,” one organizer shared during the launch. “It’s not just about
brunch. It’s about creating a space where people can slow down, connect, and
celebrate Filipino flavors together and experience the PAMAHAW Experience.”
And Filipino flavors are very much at the heart of it.
Guests can expect beloved breakfast staples interpreted with
playful creativity — comforting dishes elevated through modern presentation,
inventive pairings, and café-style flair. The atmosphere leans heavily into
nostalgia: the kind tied to weekend mornings at a relative’s house,
neighborhood fiestas, or the hum of conversations over coffee and warm food.
At the venue, the experience is designed to unfold like a curated neighborhood gathering. Merchant booths line the space with baked goods, specialty drinks, desserts, and local finds, while OPM music fills the background, creating a soundtrack that feels distinctly homegrown. Organizers describe the brunch club as equal parts food market, community hangout, and cultural experience.
For many young Cebuanos, brunch has long been associated
with Western café culture — pancakes, eggs benedict, and minimalist interiors.
The Sabado Brunch Club instead places Filipino identity front and center,
embracing local flavors and small businesses while reshaping them into
something contemporary and shareable.
Participating merchants for June include Hey Pudding, Just
Bake Days, Brick Lane, LA Eats, Thanin Co., Hinam Hinam, Nature to Cup, Coco
Sugbo, Cebu Grand Hotel, and Coffyy Pages & Lattes, each bringing their own
interpretation of comfort food and local creativity to the table.
Beyond the food itself, the organizers hope the brunch
series becomes a weekly ritual — a place where friends gather after long work
weeks, families linger over breakfast, and strangers discover new favorites
while moving through the bustling morning crowd.
There is also a deliberate sense of discovery built into the
event. Guests can expect exclusive offers, limited-run menu items, and pop-up
experiences available only during the Sabado Brunch Club, encouraging visitors
to return each week for something new.
But perhaps the appeal lies less in novelty and more in the feeling the event tries to recreate: the warmth of Filipino togetherness.
In a time when dining experiences are increasingly designed
for speed and convenience, the Sabado Brunch Club offers something slower, more
personal, and rooted in community. It invites people not only to eat, but to
stay awhile — to share stories over coffee, browse local creations, and enjoy a
Saturday morning that feels intentionally local.
Every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., Vibo Place hopes to
become the kind of space where Cebu wakes up together.
No tickets. No reservations. Just come as you are, breathe in the aroma of home-cooked favorites, and let the morning unfold.
