The name “Adlawon,” which means dawn in the original vernacular, reflects the beginning of a new day and, for its founders, a new beginning born from a shared desire to use their blessings to make a meaningful difference.

“As my wife and I approached retirement many years ago, we drew up a bucket list of ways to share the blessings we had been given,” shared Atty. Danny Ortiz. “We especially wished to help the underprivileged, assist in the protection of nature, and build something beautiful and lasting. The farm became the ideal avenue to realize these wishes.”

More than simply a leisure destination, Adlawon Vacation Farm hopes to offer guests an experience that leaves a lasting impression. Visitors are encouraged not only to enjoy the fresh mountain air and scenic surroundings, but also to develop a deeper appreciation for farming communities and the importance of caring for nature. “We hope guests will take home not only an experience, but also an inspiration,” said Doc. Peluche Ortiz. “Through their visit, we want them to become motivated to care for our farming communities, appreciate the bounty and beauty of nature, and help in its preservation.”

Bridging Communities Through Agriculture Building the farm has not been without challenges. One of the biggest has been bridging differences in mindset, attitude, values, and norms between city dwellers and traditional farmers. Creating a shared vision required patience, mutual respect, and trust qualities that continue to shape the relationships and partnerships being built within the community.

The farm also seeks to provide visitors with an immersive understanding of rural life. A guided tour of the entire property can be completed in approximately two hours, with a variety of educational, entertaining, and uplifting activities along the way. For international visitors and those seeking a deeper cultural experience, one of the highlights is the opportunity to interact with farmers and their families, offering a more authentic glimpse into Filipino traditions, values, and everyday life.

Championing Sustainable Farm Practices Sustainability is also at the heart of Adlawon Vacation Farm’s long-term vision. The farm is currently in the process of pursuing accreditation from the Department of Agriculture and is implementing Good Agricultural Practices, including organic composting, zero-waste management, and natural methods of pest control. These initiatives reflect the farm's commitment to responsible agriculture while protecting the environment for future generations.

A Future for Cebu Farm Tourism Adlawon Vacation Farm believes farm tourism holds tremendous potential for Cebu. The farm has already earned recognition as one of the Highlands Resorts and for its Outstanding Contribution to the Growth and Vibrancy of Cebu City's Tourism Industry, awarded by the Cebu City Tourism Commission in September 2024.

Yet its founders believe there is still much work to be done to fully unlock the potential of farm tourism. Challenges remain, including narrow and difficult farm-to-market roads, the need for more agricultural training, and inadequate access to farming equipment and materials. With stronger support from government agencies and the private sector, Adlawon Vacation Farm hopes to become part of a larger movement that will position Cebu as a leading destination for authentic and sustainable farm tourism.
