LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — In Maribago, the sound of a guitar is more than music. It is the sound of hands at work, traditions being passed down and a community proudly holding on to its identity.
This whole month of September, Kuwerdas: Celebrating Maribago’s Proud Tradition of Guitar Making, a partnership between Bluewater Maribago Beach Resort and Barangay Maribago, invites visitors to experience that heritage in a more intimate way.
At the Guitar Gallery in the Dolpo Area, locally crafted guitars are displayed throughout the month. Each instrument offers a glimpse into the patience and artistry behind Cebu’s celebrated guitar-making tradition.
But Kuwerdas is not meant to be seen only through glass and display spaces. The celebration also brings heritage to the dining table through the Harana-Themed Dinner Buffet, held every Monday in September at Bluewater Maribago Beach Resort.
Inspired by the Filipino tradition of harana, the evening pairs Filipino flavors with live music, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of old-fashioned serenades.
And perhaps that is Kuwerdas’ greatest charm: it reminds us that culture is not something that belongs only in museums. Sometimes, it is held in your hands, heard in a song, tasted at the table—and kept alive by the people who continue to tell its story.
