Over 4,400 kilograms of waste collected across Kinalumsan River and Consolacion

SM Seaside City Cebu, SM City Cebu, SM J Mall, and SM City Consolacion joined communities across Cebu in this year’s International Coastal Cleanup on September 19, 2026, mobilizing more than 760 employee-volunteers to help clear waste from local waterways and surrounding areas.

At Kinalumsan River in Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City, SM Seaside City Cebu, SM City Cebu, SM J Mall, and SMX Convention Center Seaside Cebu gathered 742 employee-volunteers who worked together to collect a total of 3,155.29 kilograms of trash from the river shoreline.

Meanwhile, SM City Consolacion mobilized 20 employee-volunteers for a cleanup along Laray Road in Consolacion, where participants collected 1,274 kilograms of waste.

The cleanup efforts across the four SM malls resulted in a combined 4,429.29 kilograms of trash collected, underscoring the impact of collective action in keeping communities and waterways cleaner.

The annual International Coastal Cleanup brings together volunteers around the world to remove waste from shorelines, rivers, and other waterways while raising awareness about the need to reduce pollution at its source. In Cebu, SM employee-volunteers took part in the global movement by dedicating time and effort to areas within and around their communities.

The initiative is part of SM Cares’ Environmental Programs, which promote environmental stewardship, sustainable practices, climate resilience, and the reduction of plastic pollution. Through these programs, SM Supermalls continues to encourage employees, partners, and communities to take part in meaningful actions for a cleaner and more sustainable future.

As communities continue to face the impact of waste and plastic pollution, initiatives such as the International Coastal Cleanup highlight how sustained, collective efforts can contribute to healthier waterways and more resilient communities.
